The development of the film was preceded by abandoned plans for direct sequels to Evil Dead (2013) and Army of Darkness (1992), as well as a fourth season of Ash vs Evil Dead (2015-2018). In October 2019, Sam Raimi announced that a new film was in development, with Rob Tapert producing, Raimi and Bruce Campbell executive producing, and Cronin writing and directing the project. New Line Cinema (distributor of the first film) was announced as the production company. Principal photography took place in New Zealand from June to October 2021. The film was originally scheduled to premiere on the streaming service HBO Max, but distributor Warner Bros. Pictures finally decided to release the film after positive test screenings. Evil Dead Rise Plot

Friends Teresa and Jessica and Jessica's new boyfriend Caleb are vacationing at a lakeside cabin when an apparently sick Jessica grinds on Teresa and cuts off Caleb's head before sprawling over the lake.

The day before she discovered she was pregnant, Beth, a guitar technician, visits her sister Ellie, a single mother to teenagers Danny and Bridget and granddaughter Kassie, in a condemned Los Angeles apartment complex. An earthquake shakes the building while the children are in its basement parking lot, revealing a hidden chamber. Danny investigates and finds religious artifacts, three phonographs from 1923, and a strange book, which he takes to his room. The initials rejected the priest's attempts to examine the book, which turned out to be one of the three volumes of the Naturom Demonto. A later note reveals that the priest continued his research in secret with a spell that summons demonic beings known as the undead.

The building's electricity goes out and isolated Ellie is possessed by an unseen force. He returns to the apartment in a trance, menacingly threatens his family and dies, begging Beth to protect his children. Beth and Ellie's neighbors help her lie in her bedroom and look for a way out. They find that the stairs have collapsed, the elevator is damaged, and they cannot get to the fire escape until Ellie comes back to life and attacks the family, injuring Bridget. Beth and the kids lock Ellie out of her apartment while she stalks and murders her neighbors.

Danny confesses to Beth that he got Naturom Demonto back, and Ellie tricks Kassie into opening the door before attacking her. While Danny and Beth are distracted rescuing Kassie and locking up Ellie, Bridget gains power through her injury. Bridget attacks Beth before turning on Danny and Kassie, who accidentally hits her in the head with a broken broom handle.

Beth listens to the third disk to understand how the dead are removed, but learns that the priest failed and his allies were all possessed, and only the complete destruction of the host stopped the dead. Bridget is revived and fatally stabbed by Danny, who sets Bridget on fire before dying when Ellie uses the vents to break into the apartment. Ellie realizes that Beth is pregnant and tries to rip the fetus out of her, but Beth and Kassie manage to incapacitate her with scissors. Ellie does not emotionally manipulate Kassie, who accepts that her mother is already gone.

Beth and Kassie seek shelter in a damaged elevator that is protected by the corpses of Ellie, Bridget, and Danny and their neighbors. Ellie, Bridget and Danny team up for the multi-part abomination known as the Marauder when blood spills into the elevator. As the marauder climbs the blood-soaked elevator, the machine's weight limit is exceeded, causing it to fall to the bottom floor, and Beth and Kassie escape to the parking lot. The marauder grabs Kassie and tries to decapitate her with a chainsaw, but Beth returns and interrupts, allowing her and Kass to force the marauder into a wood chipper, destroying its body.
