Spider-Man: Homecoming had its world premiere at the TCL Chinese Theater in Hollywood on June 28, 2017, and had its UK premiere on July 5. It opened in other international markets on July 6, opening on 23,400 screens (277 of which were IMAX screens) in 56 countries over the weekend. The film opened in the United States on July 7 in 4,348 theaters (392 were IMAX and IMAX 3D and 601 premium large format), including 3D screenings. It was originally scheduled to be released on July 28. Spider-Man: Homecoming is part of the three phases of the MCU.
In April 2021, Sony signed a deal with Disney that gave them access to their legacy content, including previous Spider-Man films and Marvel content in the Sony Spider-Man Universe, to stream on Disney and Hulu and appear on the linear television networks by Disney. After the 2012 Battle of New York, Adrian Toomes and his salvage company are contracted to clean up the city, only to be taken over by the Department of Damage Control (DODC), a partnership between Tony Stark and the US- government Furious at being put out of business, Toomes convinces his employees to keep the Chitauri technology they've already acquired and use it to create and sell advanced weapons, including a flying vulture suit that Toomes uses to steal Chitauri power cells. Eight years later, Stark calls Peter Parker into the Avengers to help solve the internal conflict in Germany, but he continues his studies at the Midtown School of Science and Technology when Stark tells him that he is not yet ready to become a full-fledged avenger. . . Parker quits his school's academic decathlon team to focus more on fighting crime as Spider-Man. His best friend Ned later discovers his secret identity.
Parker meets Toomes' partners Jackson Brice/Shocker and Herman Schultz, who are selling guns to local criminal Aaron Davis. Davis is saved by Parker before Toomes catches him in the Vulture suit and falls into the lake. He nearly drowned after a parachute built into the suit became entangled. He is saved by Stark, who tracks down the Spider-Man suit he gave Parker and warns him not to get involved with criminals. Toomes accidentally kills Brice with one of the guns, and Schultz becomes the new Shocker.
Parker and Ned examine the weapon left by Brice, removing its power core. When Schultz's tracker takes him to Maryland, Parker rejoins the decathlon team and goes with them to Washington, D.C. for their national tournament. Ned and Parker disable the Stark tracking device implanted in Spider-Man's suit and unlock its enhanced abilities. Parker tries to stop Toome from stealing weapons from the DODC truck, but is caught, causing him to miss the decathlon tournament. When he discovers that the power core is an unstable Chitauri grenade, he travels to the Washington Monument, where the core activates and explodes, trapping Ned and their friends in an elevator. Parker saves them, including his classmate, and crushes Liz. Days later, on a ferry in Staten Island, New York, Parker captures Toomes' new buyer, Mac Gargan, but Toomes escapes and the malfunctioning gun tears the ferry in half. Stark helps Parker rescue the passengers and confiscates his suit as punishment for his recklessness. Parker returns to his high school life and asks Liz to go to the home dance with him. Inside, Toomes attacks Parker, breaking the pillars of the building and trapping Parker to his death in the rubble of the collapsed building. Parker escapes and hijacks the plane, causing it to crash on Coney Island Beach. He and Toomes continue their battle, which ends with Parker saving Toome after the Vulture suit explodes, damaging Toome's life. Parker leaves Toome with the cargo of the plane for the police.
